As an estate wedding photographer, I am always drawn to venues that combine timeless elegance with personal storytelling. Katie and Evan’s Cairnwood wedding was the perfect example of why I love photographing at historic estates. With its Gilded Age architecture and sweeping grounds, Cairnwood Estate offered the perfect backdrop for a day filled with romance, laughter, family, and just the right amount of vintage charm.

Katie & Evan’s Proposal Story

Katie describes herself as a planner by nature—especially while finishing medical school and preparing to begin residency in 2025. But when it came to their proposal, Evan managed to completely surprise her.

After a simple Sunday brunch, Katie returned home expecting a normal, relaxed afternoon. Instead, she was greeted by their dog, Archie, wearing a bandana that read “Will you marry my dad?” Their song, Tiny Moves by Bleachers, played through the windows as Evan stepped onto the deck to ask her to be his wife. Katie described it as “the most romantic, intimate, and perfect proposal,” comparing it to a 90s rom-com brought to life.

A Cairnwood Estate Wedding Full of Personal Touches

From the moment I arrived, it was clear that Katie and Evan had planned their Cairnwood wedding with heart and intention. Katie described her vision as “classic, clean, and romantic” with just enough Bridgerton-inspired details to highlight the grandeur of this historic estate. She couldn’t have done a better job bringing this vision to life!

• Family Legacy: Framed wedding photos of their grandparents were displayed throughout the estate, a touching way to honor their families.
• Personal Details: Their four beloved pets made appearances—on cocktail napkins, signature drink signs, and custom drink stirrers (Walter the puppy made his debut here too!).
• Crafted with Love: Evan’s mother, Pat, contributed handmade signage, table numbers, and treat boxes that doubled as escort cards.

The day was a beautiful blend of refined estate elegance and deeply personal touches—exactly what makes photographing estate weddings so meaningful.

Katie and Evan’s wedding was more than a ceremony—it was a celebration of family, love, and joy. From their private vow readings to their running all over the grounds with reckless abandon, it was a celebration of life.
