Spring Showers and May Flowers

I have a little “brag box” on my wedding questionnaire that I send to all of my couples a few weeks before their wedding. Sometimes I get a few bullet point remarks, other times I get a story.

I received a story from Katherine, and I absolutely loved it. I love hearing what makes each wedding day special. I want to know the reasons behind each decision and the sentiments that contribute to the wedding! No two weddings are the same, just as no two couples are the same. Your wedding should be a celebration tailored to who you are, and what you want to share with your loved ones.

After their engagement – on a golf course in north Georgia in Reynolds Lake, Katherine and Dan’s first decision in wedding planning was their venue. Fiddler’s Elbow was an easy choice! While her parents have retired to Georgia, Katherine grew up in the Somerset Hills and knew it was the perfect location for her wedding. When Cinco de Mayo was offered as an open date, they decided it would a really great way to remember their special day, and even incorporated some of it into their decor. Their specialty cocktails were a combination of spicy margarita in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, and a Georgia-peach-inspired cocktail, in honor of their favorite place and engagement location! Katherine even managed to incorporate Cinco de Mayo stamps while working with Little Postage House to curate the stamp design on the invitation envelopes. How else would you wrap the perfect custom invitation design, so beautifully created by The Jess Press?

Another favorite detail was “The sisterhood of the traveling ‘bride’ clutch” which was used by Katherine’s Matron of Honor at her wedding, and a few months later when another bridesmaid, Alicia, got married. This time it was Katherine’s turn to use it, and there are a few friends to follow in this tradition. A little bit like the sisterhood of the traveling pants and something special that connects all of their wedding days.

To insist on dance lessons or not? For their first dance, Katherine did convince Dan to take lessons, and they turned these lessons into a fun date night every time they went. While this may not have been Dan’s choice, I have to assume it boosted his confidence in his dipping skills, which were excellent. Seriously, he impressed everyone with the first kiss as husband and wife.

Finally, my favorite consideration of all. What to do with the florals. Katherine did her research and figured out that she could donate them! Throwing away the florals after the wedding day really bothered Katherine. That’s when she discovered the organization Forget-Me-Knot Flowers that repurposes wedding flowers and delivers them to hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, etc. In honor of their grandparents, they made a donation to the organization and collected all the florals at the end of the night. They re-cut and designed them into smaller bouquets and I’m sure brought a lot of joy to the recipients.

Katherine and Dan, your wedding was beautiful, your story is beautiful and we could not have been happier to share in your joy on your wedding day!
