Third Time’s A Charm

Katie and Garett have experienced the full intensity of wedding planning during a pandemic. After getting engaged in 2018, they planned a nice long engagement with hopes to marry in June 2020! However, 2020 had other plans, so like most couples they pivoted. And then they pivoted again. And then again. While, the original wedding plan was to get married in their current city of Chicago, the most logical outcome was an intimate wedding in their hometowns. With only 30 of their closest loved ones, Katie and Garett decided to have their wedding in New Jersey, at the church where Katie was baptized and the country club where Garett grew up. I love how many sentimental elements were part of their wedding!

Katie’s details were all sentimental, a diamond necklace from Grandma, lace from Mom’s wedding dress, a borrowed ring. Even Garett’s cuff links and watch were gifts for his wedding day. My favorite picture request from Katie was a picture with her moms, grandmothers and her wedding hands all together. Such a fun spin on generational photos!

The forecast for their wedding called for rain, but it was nowhere to be found for all of their portraits before and after the ceremony. While Katie and Garett were being toasted by their brother and sister, the heavens opened up for the promised rain, but the sun in the distance would not quit! I know this is a lot to ask of a bride and groom who have been taking photos for hours, but Katie and Garett came outside with a whole bunch of umbrellas they’d been given by family and friends who saw the forecast. These pictures in the rain are some of my favorite from the whole day!
